American Conference Wins OBWL All Star Game, 149-138, Behind Gomez’s 25 Points
NEW YORK (AP) — In a thrilling showcase of basketball’s brightest stars, the 2037 OBWL All-Star Game unfolded before a sellout crowd of 21,671 at Weight Watchers Hall in New York, culminating in the American Conference’s 149-138 victory over the National Conference.
The AmCon asserted dominance early, closing the first quarter with a 44-37 lead. The NatCon All Stars responded in the second quarter, narrowing the deficit by outscoring the AmCon 30-24, bringing the halftime score to 68-67, with the NatCon clinging to a one-point advantage.
The game’s momentum shifted dramatically in the third quarter, however. The AmCon unleashed a formidable offensive attack, racking up 43 points against the Nat’s 29, transforming their one-point halftime deficit into a 13-point lead entering the final quarter ahead 110-97. Despite a valiant effort from the NatCon in the fourth quarter, the American All Stars maintained control, ending the game with an 11-point win.
St. Louis Sun Kings center Clemente Gomez spearheaded the American Conference’s victory, delivering an impressive 25 points on 12-of-15 shooting, alongside six rebounds, three steals, and a block in 25 minutes, earning him Player of the Game honors. Supporting Gomez, Raymond Lindstrom of the Los Angeles Chaos and the Las Vegas Sting’s Thomas Carter each contributed 22 points, showcasing the AmCon’s balanced offense.
On the opposing side, Nathan Hindman of the London Knights emerged as the game’s top scorer, pouring in 33 points on an efficient 16-of-23 shooting for the NatCon. The New Jersey Evolution’s Jamaal Weathers bolstered the Nationals’ offense with 25 points, displaying remarkable accuracy from beyond the arc with a perfect 5-for-5 performance. San Francisco Mustangs center Cary Fisher added 21 points, connecting on 10-of-12 attempts, while also contributing five rebounds and three blocks.
Statistically, both teams were exceptional shooting the ball. The AmCon converted 58.3% (63-of-108) of their field goal attempts and 35.7% (5-of-14) from three-point range. The NatCon was even better, shooting 61.4% (62-of-101) from the field and an impressive 56.3% (9-of-16) from beyond the arc.
However, disparities emerged in the other facets of the game. The AmCon was superior from the free-throw line, sinking 90% (18-of-20) of their attempts, while the NatCon struggled, converting only 55.6% (5-of-9). In the battle of the boards, the National Conference held a slight edge with 40 total rebounds to the Americans’ 35. Turnovers proved pivotal, as the AmCon’s disciplined play resulted in a mere six turnovers, contrasted by the Nat’s 17, a factor that significantly influenced the game’s outcome.
The American Conference’s ability to capitalize on the National Conference’s miscues and their superior performance at the charity stripe were instrumental in securing their victory in the 2037 OBWL All Star Game.
