SAN DIEGO, CA (AP) — Xander Remington Brings Experience and Defensive Prowess to the San Diego Storm
The San Diego Storm have made a significant move in their off-season roster construction by signing former All-Star and All-Defensive player Xander Remington. The 34-year-old guard joins the Storm after a successful career that has seen him excel on both ends of the court.
Remington burst onto the scene in the OBWL (Online World Basketball League) in 2020, earning a spot on the All-Rookie 2nd team in his debut season. His talent and potential were evident from the start, but it was in 2025 that he truly made a name for himself. That year, Remington earned his first All-Star selection and All-Defensive 1st-team honors while putting up impressive numbers of 11.7 points, 7.2 assists, and 2.1 steals per game.
Known for his tenacious defense and ability to disrupt opponents, Remington’s defensive prowess has been recognized multiple times. In 2029 and 2030, he was named to the OBWL All-Defensive 2nd Team, cementing his reputation as one of the league’s premier defenders. The San Diego Storm, a team that struggled defensively last season, will undoubtedly benefit from Remington’s presence on the court.
Beyond his defensive contributions, Remington brings valuable experience and leadership to a team looking to improve. His veteran presence and playoff experience will be invaluable in guiding the younger players and helping the Storm navigate the challenges of a competitive season. With his well-rounded skill set, Remington is expected to provide scoring, play-making, and stability to the Storm’s backcourt.
After training camp, the Remington’s signing is not the only move the Storm have made, to bolster their roster. The team also added Brian Hicks, a skilled big man, to their ranks. At just 27 years old, Hicks has already made a name for himself in the developmental league, showcasing his scoring ability, earning D-League All-Star honors, and leading his team to a D-League Championship.
Hicks is expected to provide much-needed scoring in the paint and be a reliable backup. With his strength inside and versatility, Hicks will give the team flexibility and a scoring punch off the bench. The Storm’s second unit, which struggled at times last season, will significantly benefit from both Xander and Hicks’ presence.
In order to make room for Remington and Hicks on the roster, the Storm had to make some tough decisions. General Manager Prince Amour made the call to waive Reid Smith and Charles Su, a move that showcases the team’s commitment to improving and creating the best possible roster for the upcoming season. The Storm are still expected to make further moves before the start of the season, as they aim to fine-tune their roster and address any remaining areas of need.
With the additions of Xander Remington and Brian Hicks, the San Diego Storm have taken significant steps toward strengthening their team for the upcoming season. Remington’s experience, defensive prowess, and leadership qualities will undoubtedly elevate the team’s performance, while Hicks’ scoring ability and versatility will provide a much-needed boost off the bench. Fans are eagerly anticipating the start of the season to see how these new additions will impact the Storm’s fortunes and push the team closer to playoff contention.
